Why We Use Tanboocel®
What is Tanboocel®?
Tanboocel® is a branded viscose fibre made using bamboo pulp. Cellulose from bamboo is processed and regenerated into fine fibres, which are then made into yarn and fabric. This creates the smooth, soft material commonly described as bamboo viscose. For our main fabric, we blend Tanboocel® bamboo-derived viscose with elastane and use a jersey knit construction. This gives us a supple fabric with stretch, chosen to complement our adaptive designs and feel comfortable during everyday wear.
Stretch that supports movement
6% elastane provides stretch and helps the fabric recover its shape. This flexibility supports everyday movement and makes it easier to position our adaptive garments when dressing.
Moisture absorption
Bamboo-derived viscose is an absorbent fibre, helping the fabric take up moisture from the skin.
We chose it with everyday comfort in mind.
A supple drape
Our jersey fabric follows the body’s shape without feeling stiff or bulky. This is particularly useful in our Belted Front designs, where the front panel needs to move into position comfortably before the sides are secured.
Chosen with lived experience in mind
Our founder’s experience recovering from surgery helped shape the way we think about underwear. When bending or moving is difficult, the way a garment opens is only part of the experience. Its fabric also needs to feel comfortable, move easily and sit softly against the body.
A soft, smooth feel
Underwear sits close to the skin for long periods, so its texture matters. Our Tanboocel® jersey has a soft, smooth surface that gives our briefs and camisole a comfortable, everyday feel. Inside our Lace Bralette, the lining provides a smooth layer between the lace and the skin.
A renewable starting point
Bamboo as a renewable raw material
Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that can regenerate after harvesting. Its ability to
renew makes it an attractive source of cellulose for textiles. Choosing bamboo-derived fibre gives our main fabric a predominantly plant-based starting point. The environmental impact also depends on how the bamboo is grown, harvested and processed.
How Tanboocel® approaches production
Published Tanboocel® technical information describes measures to recover processing chemicals, reuse water and steam, and treat wastewater. These processes aim to improve resource efficiency and manage the impacts of fibre production. We believe those details matter. Responsible fabric selection means considering both the raw material and the process that turns it into something we can wear.
Understanding biodegradability
Tanboocel® technical information describes the cellulose fibre as biodegradable under particular conditions. Our finished underwear also contains elastane, elastic, fastenings and, in some styles, nylon lace. For that reason, we do not describe our complete garments as biodegradable or compostable. We encourage customers to care for their underwear according to the garment label and use it for as long as it remains comfortable and functional.
Chosen for everyday comfort
Where we use our Tanboocel® blend
Our Tanboocel® jersey is used in our women’s bikini, hi-cut, full and lace midi briefs, our men’s briefs and trunks, our lace camisole and our Adaptive Plain Bralette with lace trim.
Our Adaptive Lace Bralette combines nylon/elastane lace with our Tanboocel® blend on the inside lining, providing a soft layer against the skin.
All women’s briefs, men’s briefs and men’s trunks also feature a 100% cotton gusset.
Fabric chosen for easier dressing
Our founder’s experience recovering from surgery shaped the development of UnderWraps Underwear®. We understand that comfort comes from both how underwear feels and how easily it can be put on.
Our signature Belted Front design, registered with IP Australia, allows our briefs and trunks to be put on without stepping into the leg openings or bending towards your feet. Our soft, stretchy fabric complements that design, whether you dress standing, sitting or lying down.
Thoughtfully chosen fabrics. Easier dressing. Everyday comfort, dignity and independence.
